Mobile Data Technologies is seeking a Buyer / Planner to support the fast-paced, growing team. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Buyer / Planner will be responsible for planning the necessary production activities to execute the plan as well as manage the complete procurement process. The successful candidate will work with across other departments to ensure objectives are met within timelines and customer requirements.


Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years of previous purchasing experience
  • Minimum 5 years of previous manufacturing planning and procurement experience
  • Previous experience in oil and gas or manufacturing considered an asset
  • Previous SAP experience required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders effectively
  • Good analytical skills, ability to manage multiple priorities


Day-to-Day Responsibilities Include:


Production Planning

  • Create production plans and utilize Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system to determine procurement needs
  • Process purchase requisitions for both off the shelf and custom components
  • Locate sources of supply, obtain quotes for required materials
  • Compare costs and evaluate the quality and suitability of supplies, materials, and equipment, select final supplier(s)
  • Follow up with suppliers to ensure delivery dates are met. Communicate updates to all stakeholders when required
  • Develop and maintain supplier performance metrics
  • Resolve disputes with suppliers in cooperation with the Accounts Payable department
  • Ensure all procurement transactions and records are managed within the approved procedures

Quotes/Orders/Procurement Process

  • Coordinate technical requests, order placement and quotation services
  • Determine inventory shortages, delivery dates, communicating information to internal customers
  • Create and issue purchase orders to suppliers, process any revisions and updates order files.
  • Review supplier quotes to assure accuracy of price, equipment description, shipping instructions and initiate follow-up action for orders
  • Respond to internal customer/suppliers questions on order status, discrepancies in billing or delivery, and determine appropriate corrective action
  • Initiate return to supplier for warranty products

Internal Customer Information

  • Receive internal customer requests, complaints, initiating response and/or corrective action
  • Work with Operations to determine critical need items and assists in establishing priorities on ship dates
  • Communicate current availability and lead times

Product Information

  • Act as primary contact between supplier and Engineering/Operations regarding special product applications and/or significant modifications required to meet specific customer requirements
