The Technical / Communications Trainer is a project focused role that includes technical/retail skills development, management development and soft skills. As an expert in adult learning, facilitation, and team member development, Trainer strives to use a consultative approach to building learning programs that leads to team members successfully performing key skills and meeting organizational metrics. 


The Trainer has a high level of learning agility, and can quickly learn and absorb new knowledge, processes, and functions in order to design solutions that meet business needs. 


  • 5+ years in a training/curriculum development role
  • Marketing and/or psychology background would be consided an asset


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Consulting skills 
  • Presentation skills and/or public speaking experience
  • Comfortable working with team members at all levels of the organization, including senior management
  • Expert level needs analysis skills
  • In-depth knowledge of learning evaluation methodologies
  • Proficiency with computers, including virtual training and social media tools



  • Degree or Diploma in adult education, teaching/training, or curriculum design


Special Requirements

  • Occasional travel – up to 15% of time.
  • Availability to work Saturdays 


Designs Learning Solutions

  • Responsible for designing learning solutions related to trainers’ core area of knowledge and expertise (ex. store management training).
  • Conducts needs analysis, identifies learner performance gaps, make recommendations for improving/revising existing training classes and programs.
  • Writes clear learning objectives, designs facilitator led and on-line (virtual) classes to meet objectives.
  • Creates facilitator and participant learning materials utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel and/or Publisher.


Delivers (Facilitates) Training & Other Learning Solutions

  • Facilitate training sessions with energy and expertise using face-to-face and/or on-line (virtual) facilitation methods.
  • Achieve learning outcomes of training classes utilizing best practices in adult learning methodologies.
  • Improve learner skill/performance through observation, feedback and coaching.
  • Creates and delivers advanced learning sessions through social and mobile learning strategies including video tutorials, web based discussion forums, etc.
  • Delivers training (classroom, on-line, etc.) to support various projects.


Training Program Support

  • Ensures training program meet business objectives and are delivered consistently across training locations.
  • Updates and modifies training documentation as needed.
  • Develops training, feedback skills in regional trainers.


Evaluate & Report

  • Creates and implements evaluation strategy for development programs that measures the success of training programs by comparing desired outcomes to learner performance.
  • Summarize and communicate core results to leadership.


Supports Learning Transfer

  • Creates strategies for post-training learning support that improves job performance of participants.
  • Provides learners with development opportunities and strategies for improvement.
  • Uses coaching skills to help learners self-identify areas for improvement and remove barriers to success.
  • Communicates with managers to plan follow up activities for learners.
  • Consult with or inform learners, colleagues or supervisor about how to support and maintain learning within the work environment.
