Qualifications

  • A Canadian CPA designation
  • 5-10 years of public accounting experience, including working paper files and the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns
  • Experience with notice to readers and review engagements
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, such as Excel and Word
  • Experience preparing review and NTR engagements
  • Experience with Caseware, Caseview, Jazz-it, and Profile software programs
  • Knowledge of basic accounting software programs such as QuickBooks and Simply Accounting
  • Strong understanding of GST and payroll matters
  • Solid understanding of ASPE as well as current trends in finance and accounting
  • Knowledge of simple tax planning concepts and ideas
  • Taken a number of personal and corporate income tax courses.
  • Taken appropriate level of professional development courses related to reviews and NTR engagements.
  • Taken courses regarding client service and or communication
  • Desire to work as part of a team
  • An attitude of wanting to help others, add value, and bring impact
  • Good presentation skills, as you will be interacting with clients
  • Strong interpersonal skills as you will be dealing with many different types of people and personalities
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize as you will have numerous clients to assist on a regular basis

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of year-end financial statements and working paper files (NO AUDITS!)
  • Preparation of corporate and personal income tax returns and proactive planning with the owners of the business
  • Prepare basic borrowing packages, FOFI packages, and cash flow models.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with client management and bookkeepers.
  • Identify soft issues within the clients business
  • Able to ask meaningful questions of clients and help problem solve
  • Effectively communicate with clients regarding financial statements, tax concepts, financial analysis, and general business advice
  • Identify and communicate ratios and KPI’s for client to monitor, then provide options and analysis to other team members on file.
  • Identify trends and analysis of financial statements
  • Initiate client communication outside the regular engagement to build stronger relationships with the clients
  • Communicate with government agencies on behalf of our clients
  • Work closely with our team to find value added opportunities for our clients
  • Work closely with our team to complete client deadlines
  • Attend planning meetings and quarterly meetings with client; provide input, then document the discussions.
  • Identify and communicate scope creep in engagements before proceeding
  • You will be required to build a professional network of accountants, tax specialists, bankers, insurance and investment advisors, etc.
  • Progression towards becoming the lead on compliance engagements of our clients
