    Position Overview

     

    People look to the Chamber to provide insight, information and experiences that can make their business more successful. Our membership growth is a reflection of the strong suite of marketing efforts and practices.  The Chamber offers a lot to its members – advocacy, policy, research, best practices, events, networking and more.  We need to ensure our existing and potential members know about all we do and see the value of our programming and activities, all the while bringing our brand to life and strengthening it with everything we do. 

     

    The Director, Marketing role will be responsible for the strategy and execution of all the Calgary Chamber marketing and events activities.

    Qualifications

    • A seasoned practitioner demonstrating a minimum of 10 years in a related managerial role,
    • Demonstrated ability to run advertising and marketing campaigns from start to finish (inclusive of creative all the way to delivery and execution)
    • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership qualities, specifically around leading a team through transition, rebuilding a team around a new purpose and providing coaching for growth and development
    • Post secondary education including but not limited Digital Certification (example Facebook Certified Planning Professional, Google AdWords Certification, Hootsuite Social Marketing Certification, HubSpot Content Marketing Certification or PCM – Digital Management) would be considered a desirable asset
    • A comfort in a small team working in a dynamic and changing environment and can lead it with an entrepreneurial style
    • Experienced at performance measurement and you have a track record of course correction when results don’t deliver
    • Solid background in advertising – inclusive of web, sponsorship and events marketing
    • Highly collaborative and can capably work with all facets of the organization
    • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of brand management, marketing principles, accompanied with a successful track record in developing and implement marketing plans, strategies and campaigns
    • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

    Authority

    • The ability to hire new team members according to budget
    • Releasing team members after discussion with the CEO
    • Spending within approved budget for your department’s activities and in line with spending policies

    Responsibilities

    Marketing

    • Oversee and manage the implementation and management of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce brand, strengthening it with every decision and execution
    • Develop and implement a marketing strategy that delivers on the Chamber’s brand promise, aligns to our corporate strategy, and achieves corporate objectives of awareness, recognition and revenue growth
    • Provide strategic marketing guidance to internal departments and oversee implementation of key tactics associated with achieving departmental and organizational objectives.
    • Ensure the Calgary Chamber marketing activities cover a broad spectrum of tactics and tools including events, digital approaches and more, and develop a means of measuring the effectiveness and impact of investments in marketing.
    • Oversee the digital aspect of the Chamber’s marketing activities, including stewardship of all our digital properties, developing opportunities in content marketing and digital applications to achieve the value proposition
    • In collaboration with all departments, design and implement the organization’s annual survey program with members to understand business issues, member sentiment and perceptions of satisfaction and value, and work with all departments to implement findings from results.
    • Provide strategic guidance on any outsourced production suppliers and consultants for marketing, advertising and promotional materials.
    • Build a strategy that allows for the collaboration of advertising/web/content/events alongside creative/design and user-experience

     

    Strategic and Business Planning and Budgeting

    • Participate in all strategic planning, business planning and performance assessment activities of the Calgary Chamber.
    • Develop, recommend, and manage the department’s annual budget, ensuring results, accountability and value for dollars spent.
    • Complete annual departmental plan (aligned with the organizational business plan and departmental strategies) that outline department objectives, activities and measurable outcomes.
    • Identify, evaluate, recommend and execute alternatives to fund the Chamber’s marketing works including identifying sponsorship opportunities, funding opportunities and leveraging in-kind relationships.

     

    Events & Programming Strategy 

    • Oversight on events and programming strategy that focuses those business lines into the optimal markets and opportunities.

     

    Leadership Team Involvement

    • Building and maintain strong relationships with all members of the Calgary Chamber team.
    • Work collaboratively as a member of the organization and act as a mentor and role model for all members of the organization.
    • Recruit, manage and retain qualified staff and recommend/implement staff development initiatives as appropriate.
    • Provide effective management of the department’s human resources and facilitate staff career development.
    • Participate in activities associated with the Board of Directors including preparation of board reports, and communications to support their oversight of the organization.
    • Ensure that the policy and research work of the Calgary Chamber achieves results and achieves the metrics associated with this aspect of the value proposition.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including: Chamber members, committees and Board; government employees and officials; and strategic partners.
